Saying Thank You
I’ve learned over the years to say thank you when people help you. Not just at the time – but maybe weeks later if something good happens from their lead. Working for a Thames Valley builder, I was chatting to a new architect contact – a firm that works for Bucks County Council, especially on school jobs. We’d just missed out on a small school extension because we weren’t on the County lists.
But this architect Rob Pearson clearly liked what he saw of us and suggested off his own initiative that we contact a senior manager in the County Property office regarding these approved lists – he knew the County were actually short of good smaller builders. Which we did over the next three weeks once the contact was back off leave – with positive results.
What was really good was the ability to go back to Rob a week later and to say we had made the contact – it was looking positive – and to thank him for the lead. Few people come back to say thank you – those who do are remembered.
